Highlights:

•  Players and Supah Fans come out in huge numbers for the season opener, prompting one opposing player to compare the Spiders to “a Turkish army.”


•  Dave, Joe and Liz are inspired to adopt a new look by donning Kristin’s rockin’ shades.


•  Kristin spills an entire beer on herself during postgame drowning of sorrows. Instead of rushing to her aid, her loyal teammates rush to break out their cell cameras.

Game 2: CXO 21, Applix 12

Highlight: We win!

Game 3: Swamp Rats 20, CXO 3

Highlights:

•  Spiders avert a disastrous shutout with a stirring seventh-inning rally to put some runs on the board.


•  Chris completely obliterates a monstrous plate of Bodacious Ribs at Firefly's.

Game 4: CXO 11, Network World 4

Highlight: Opposing hitter is so demoralized by Lawrence’s pitching that he voluntarily accepts a strikeout, despite the no-strikeout rule.

Game 5: CXO 19, Lois Paul & Partners 7

Highlights:

•  Spiders rack up eight runs in first inning and never look back.


•  Sarah is heard to shout an obscenity as she gets beaned by a line drive back to the mound, eventually turning her leg 17 different colors. Sarah had to sit for a while, but eventually was OK. That’s takin’ one for the team!

Game 6: CXO 23, Courion 6

Highlights:

•  Supah Fans come out in full force with newly decorated Spidah tees in honor of Supah Fan Day.


•  After answering Courion’s four-run first inning with a six-run inning of their own, the Spiders shut ’em down defensively and hold the opposition scoreless for the next five innings.


•  Lawrence ferociously gobbles up a hard-hit grounder on the mound that looked like a sure hit, earning the nickname “The Hungry Heffer.”


•  Postgame, Dave executes a disturbingly accurate impersonation of Journey’s Steve Perry from the “Separate Ways” video.

Game 7: CXO 7, Computerworld 4

Highlights:

•  Chris’ homer caps off a seven-run second inning.


•  Some serious Supah Fan support — Lisa, McHoppah, Jen and the two Sues — inspires the Spiders to their fourth straight win. Postgame, a controversy erupts when Supah Fans threaten to abandon the team after learning that Coach Nguyen didn’t invite them to a party at his crib. Peace was eventually restored.


•  Known primarily for his vicious rib attack, Chris shockingly eats a side salad after the game. The matter is still under investigation.

Game 8: CXO 12, Computerworld 7

Highlights:

•  Not a single player sweats to death.


•  Tom “The Legend” Pimental, ever concerned about dividing his CW-CXO allegiances equally, remarkably manages to spend precisely the same amount of time chatting with each side after the game (11 minutes and 34 seconds apiece). Granted, both teams timed him rigidly with stopwatches, but still, that’s impressive.

Game 9: CXO 20, Courion 10

Highlights:

•  The Spiders’ bats catch fire in the opening frame, equaling their season-best eight runs in a single inning.


•  In her first shot at pitching all year, Lynn delivers like a pro and makes a couple of sensational defensive plays on the mound. Afterward, however, she inexplicably fires a Pepperoncini’s pepper at Dave’s head, claiming he wasn’t the intended target. Dave is heard to mutter, “Never ... saw it ... coming” just before he passes out.


•  Returning after a parental hiatus, new daddy James Barnett racks up four hits and puts the game away with a homer in the Spiders’ five-run sixth inning. This would have been impressive enough, but when you consider that James circled the bases while simultaneously burping his baby boy, we’ve really got the stuff of legend here.

Game 10: CXO 11, Swamp Rats 10

Highlights:

•  The Swamp Rats jump ahead early, 5-1, but a homer by Joltin’ Joe helps the Spiders claw back into it.


•  Liz’s pitching frustrates opposing hitters, and she carries on the trend of Spider pitchers making spectacular defensive plays on the mound.


•  After taking a one-run lead just before heading into the final frame, the Spiders shut ’em down, 1-2-3, in the last inning, helped largely by Chris’ Gold Glove-caliber scoops on a couple of would-be throwing errors at first.


•  Postgame discussion focuses an unusual amount of attention on straws.

Game 11: CXO 17, Network World 5

Highlights:

•  When the leftover stash of game brews is inadvertently left back at the office, the Supah Fans save the players from certain sobriety by making an extra beer run.


•  A seven-run first inning for the Spiders sets the tone.


•  The first-ever Zima Player of the Game Award is presented to an exuberant Chris Lynch in honor of his two-homer night. He’d need that Zima later, while waiting for some jerk to move his car at Pepperoncini’s.


•  Kristin and Danielle have Pepperoncini’s jumpin’ as they karaoke to a Journey tune that’s really more fitting for the Spiders than “Separate Ways” — “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

Game 12: CXO 13, Computerworld 7

Highlights:

•  Chris and Dave each homer (Chris’ team-high sixth) to help pace the offense — including an eight-run opening inning — while the defense turns out yet another solid showing in the field.


•  Stepping in to her first game as a player all year, Danielle impresses at the plate and in the field, earning the Zima Player of the Game Award.


•  Recognized for doing so many things behind the scenes and engineering that special Spider spirit, Lynn is presented with the Bartles and Jaymes 11th Player Award for 2007. Woo-hoo, Lynn!


•  Thanks to a guilt trip laid on the CXO president for not attending any games, the Spiders enjoy beer, side salads and Godfather pizzas on Uncle Pat’s tab. What could be bad?
